North Creek Depot Museum School & Class Trips

The North Creek Depot Museum welcomes School and Class trips.

The museum is appropriate for 3rd grade through High School. All groups will find the history and background of the Gore Region exciting and educational. Groups can focus on everything from transportation, geography, local history, and the impact of the railroad on the Adirondacks, Teddy Roosevelt’s train ride to the presidency and his impact on U.S. coins to Garnet Mining and Wind Power.

School Trips to the Museum are very popular class trips, both fun and educational. Because we want each class to fully enjoy their visit to the museum we ask that classes planning trips to the museum schedule those trips at least 2 weeks in advance.

Depot Museum is open for school trips during its regular season, May-October.

There are several education programs with handouts for the students to use. One covers Theodore Roosevelt, his New York State roots, his Presidency and his impact on American coins. Another covers the development of the Gore Mountain Region beginning with the coming of the railroad in 1872, the first ski trains, ‘Garnet Mountain’ up to the closing of the mines at Tahawus shortly after WWII. The answers to all of the questions are easily found in the museum and help reinforce the museum experience. All of our programs address standards in ELA and the Arts.

Close bus parking and picnic areas are provided; however students should bring their own food and drink. For daylong trips the museum will work with the school to combine the museum visit with a train ride or tour to a Garnet Mine to hunt for treasure.
